The National Assembly is led by a President and two Vice Presidents who are selected by Assembly members prior to each session. As of 2005, the Cambodian People's Party holds a majority of the seats in the National Assembly, controlling 73 out of the 123 seats. The Funcipec Party holds 26 seats, while the Sam Rainsy Party holds the remaining 24 seats.

The Cambodian People's Party (Cambodian: Kanakpak Pracheachon Kâmpuchéa, KPK) is the ruling party of Cambodia. It has an outright majority in the National Assembly of Cambodia, but governs in coalition with the royalist Funcinpec party. The Prime Minister is Samdech Hun Sen.

Funcinpec is a royalist Cambodian political party. It is part of the current governing coalition, along with the Cambodian People’s Party. In the National Assembly of Cambodia it currently has 26 members, out of 123, who were elected in 2003 on a 20.8% share of the vote.

It traces its roots to Norodom Sihanouk, the Cambodian independence leader and former King of Cambodia, and is led by his eldest son, Prince Norodom Ranariddh.

Funcinpec is a French abbreviation for Front Uni National pour un Cambodge Indépendant, Neutre, Pacifique, et Coopératif, which translates to "National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful, and Cooperative Cambodia."

The Sam Rainsy Party (Pak Sam Rainsy or Kanakpak Som Raeangsee) is a personalist and more or less liberal party in Cambodia. The party is a member of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats. The name of the leader, Sam Rainsy is pronounced in Khmer as Som Raeangsee.
